Conversations
The Chat guide — start conversations, switch models, attach files, keep artifacts, and manage history.
Everything in Chat starts as a conversation at /chat. Messages stream back as they generate; history persists per conversation.
Start and steer
- Open
/chatand type in the composer. - Pick a model with the model selector — you can switch models mid-conversation.
- Long answer going wrong? Cancel the stream and re-prompt; cancellation is a first-class action, not a page reload.
- Come back later: history keeps every conversation, and continuations resume where you left off.
Files
Attach files from the composer. Uploads go through the attachments API and land in conversation context — reference them by name in your next message.
Artifacts
Durable outputs (documents, code, structured results) persist as artifacts outside the message stream. Open an artifact to read, copy, or iterate on it without scrolling the conversation.
Tools
When a conversation needs real-world effects — connected apps, research, generation — Chat issues tool calls through its tool runtime. Actions that need your confirmation pause for approval first; see Core concepts.
Memory
Chat keeps a per-user memory store so follow-up conversations carry context forward. Memory is scoped to your account — nothing is shared across users.
If something goes wrong
- Stream stalls or errors: cancel and retry once; persistent failures are covered in Troubleshooting.
- Wrong model behavior: check the model selector — capabilities differ per model, and Model Intelligence documents them.
- Signed-out loops or session errors: see Status and support.
