Install Ethen Code

Planned installation paths for Ethen Code — signed macOS desktop installer when released, and the branch surfaces available to developers today.

Raw

Ethen Code is not released yet, so there is no public installer to download. This page describes what will ship and what exists today, so nothing here asks you to run an installer that does not exist.

What will ship

The desktop app installs from a signed, notarized macOS disk image built by electron-builder. The packaged product is named Ethen Desktop Code, and the macOS build comes first; Windows and Linux follow later. The release plan signs, notarizes, and staples the image, then publishes it to a distribution point and records the download URL. Until that URL is published, any download button for Code is a coming-soon action, not a download.

There is no install one-liner. Do not trust install commands copied from anywhere else: the branch contains no install script, and this guide will grow one only when a real installer exists.

What exists today

Developers working from the code/v2-integration branch have three surfaces:

  • The web zone, the V2 console served from the branch.
  • The desktop app, run from source through the Electron project in

apps/desktop (version 0.1.0, unsigned).

  • The local daemon in apps/local-runtime, which also ships inside the

desktop bundle as extra resources — never as a separate download.

All three are pre-release. Setup instructions for contributors live with the branch, not here.

Requirements (planned)

  • macOS for the first desktop release; other platforms later.
  • A GitHub connection for repository work, via the Ethen GitHub App once its

installation flow is available.

  • A local model runtime (Ollama) only if you use Local Models; it is

optional for Code itself.

  • [Ethen Code desktop](./desktop)
  • [The local daemon](./daemon)
  • [GitHub App](./github-app)
